Cytosolic DNA sensors detect microbial DNA and promote type I interferon and pro-inflammatory cytokine production through the adaptor stimulator of interferon genes (STING) to resolve infection. Endogenous DNA also engages the STING pathway, contributing to autoimmune disease.
Previous studies have shown that dietary calcium suppresses oral carcinogenesis, but the mechanism is unclear. p120-catenin (p120) is a cytoplasmic protein closely associated with E-cadherin to form the E-cadherin-β-catenin complex and may function as a tumor suppressor in the oral epithelium.
Bmp2 and Bmp4 genes were ablated in adult mice (KO) using a conditional gene knockout technology. Bones were evaluated by microcomputed tomography (μCT), bone strength tester, histomorphometry and serum biochemical markers of bone turnover. Drill-hole was made at femur metaphysis and bone regeneration in the hole site was measured by calcein binding and μCT.
Gaucher disease (GD) is a genetic disease caused by mutations in the GBA1 gene which result in reduced enzymatic activity of β-glucocerebrosidase (GCase). This study identified the progranulin (PGRN) gene (GRN) as another gene associated with GD.
Bone homeostasis is a finely regulated mechanism involving different molecular pathways including adenosine signaling. The aim of this study is to determine the bone phenotype of adenosine A2B receptor knockout (A2BRKO) mice and to measure their ability to form new bone. Moreover, we analyzed the functionality of osteoclasts and osteoblasts from A2BRKO mice.
