BIOQUANT OSTEO 2017 Preview in ASBMR Booth 416

New Referent Data Measurement Type

OSTEO 2017 adds a new "Referent Data" measurement type. The Referent Data type simultaneously measures Tissue Volume (TV), Bone Volume (BV), and Bone Surface (BS). On Referent Data type, each value (TV, BV, BS) has a drop list to choose the array that will store that data value. This design is similar to the design of the Osteoid type and dLS type. As with other measurement types, the Referent Data type can be assigned to an array.

Snap to Tissue Volume boundary

The Pan Box of the Large Image Navigator now automatically snaps to the Tissue Volume boundary. This makes systematic navigation at high magnification as simple as clicking the "Next" button. When the Pan Box reaches the edge of the TV, it automatically wraps to the next line and continues to move within the TV, automatically skipping fields of view outside of the TV boundary.

Set Scan area by Edges

BIOQUANT SCAN has added a new technique for defining the boundaries of the scan area: mark edges. With the objective that will be used to scan the section, navigate to the edges of the section. Click the "Set Edge" button. Repeat for as many edges as necessary. BIOQUANT SCAN will compute the rectangular scan area needed to image the entire section.

Significant Improvements to Auto Surface

The Auto Surface measurement type has been enhanced to support a wider range of surface shapes. Supported surfaces now include mouse models with longer than average labeled surfaces as well as complex, hand drawn interfaces like tumor to bone interfaces, cartilage to bone interfaces, and bone to implant interfaces. Originally, the Auto Surface tool designed to quantify mouse models with "normal" labeled surfaces and for the automatic measurement of osteoclast surface on TRAP sections.

Multi-band Threshold improvements

OSTEO 2017 continues work on the Beta feature Mult-Band threshold. Multi-Band Thresholding allows multiple stain colors to be grouped together into a single biological structure. For example: Bone Volume = Mineralized Bone Volume + Osteoid Volume. It also makes it simpler to automatically remove background staining.

Crop Scans

The Large Image Navigator can now crop scans to a preferred size. Frequently, a lab will receive scans of its sections that contain more than area to be measured. By cropping the scan to just the measurement area, BIOQUANT can shrink file sizes and maximize the resolution of the "zoom to fit" view needed for some measurements.
